Defence Central Library (DCL) located at Sunset Boulevard, DHA Phase-II is organising three days literary, educational and cultural functions for the general public on the eve of 21st Anniversary of its existence from December 20 to 22, 2012. The multifarious functions being held on the occasion include a three day Grand Book Fair, a literary Seminar, an exquisite Mehfil-e-Mushaira and an enchanting programme, 'Ek Shaam Himayat Shair Ka Naam'.
The aim of holding these functions is to promote knowledge and reading habits in society. The hallmark of the event is a number of educational programmes for school/college students including story telling session for kids and a Naat competition. The three days Books Exhibition will be held at DCL's Lawns from 20 to 22 December, 2012 from 10 AM to 9 PM daily. Leading publishers/booksellers are putting up their stalls and offering quality publications on discounted price.
The Books Exhibition will be inaugurated in a colourful ceremony on Thursday evening which will mark the beginning of the three days anniversary functions at DCL. An intellectually stimulating literary seminar on "Role of Libraries in Promoting Reading Habits in Society" will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 1600 Hrs at DCL Auditorium. Scholars and literary figures will enlighten the audience on the subject with their thought provoking discourse. The speakers include Lieutenant General Tanweer Hussain Naqvi (Retd), Ghazi Salahuddin and Ms Ameena Saiyid.
An exclusive evening 'Ek Shaam Himayat Ali Shair Ka Naam' will be held on Friday, 20 December, 2012 at 2000 Hours at DCL Auditorium. All Karachi Mehfil-e-Mushaira will be held at DCL's Auditorium on Fri, 22 December, 12 at 2000 Hrs. Eminent poets including Professor Enayat Ali Khan, Fahmida Riaz, Shahida Hasan, Javed Saba, Haider Hasnain Jalasi, Ijaz Rehmani, Sabir Zafar, Ambreen Haseeb and many others will participate. Renowned poet Himayat Ali Shair will preside. The event is open for general public.-PR
