The government on Wednesday introduced 'The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2012' in the National Assembly', proposing amendments to the Representation of the People Act of 1976 and the Senate (Election) Act of 1975. The bill was tabled by Minister for Law and Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Farooq H Naek. The Speaker referred the Bill to the Standing Committee concerned for further deliberations.
The Bill seeks to bring provisions of the said Acts in conformity with the provisions of Articles 63 and 219 of the Constitution as amended by the Constitution (Eighteenth Amendment) Act of 2010.
