Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister on Environment, Mansha Ullah Butt has ordered DCOs of all the districts to launch crackdown against the purchase and sale of hospitals waste and its use in plastic grain preparation. He issued this order during a meeting with officers of Provincial Environment Department, held here on Thursday, disclosed an official.
Mansha Ullah Butt said illegal purchase and sale of hospitals waste and use of syringes in plastic grains have created threats to the health of the people. "It is the vision of the Punjab Chief Minister that no one should be allowed to play with the health of the masses," he added.
He directed that healthcare units should be regularly monitored in public interest and disposal of hospitals waste in a proper way should be ensured. He also said elements involved in the purchase and sale of hospitals waste should be identified and the units using it for production purposes should be sealed in accordance with the rules and regulations of Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2001.
"Hospital Waste Management Rules 2005 should be implemented in letter and spirit and monthly performance report should be presented. Moreover, a 4-member committee has been constituted under the supervision of Director P&C for the implementation of hospital waste rules, which will submit its report along with suggestions within 15 days," he added.
