Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan held a detailed meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), former justice Fakhruddin G Ibrahim, during which they exchanged views on holding free, fair and transparent elections as well as formation of the caretaker set up.
Sources close to PML-N said the one-on-one meeting took place secretly at Islamabad Club, which lasted for an hour. There was exchange of views on verification of voters' lists in Karachi and delimitation of constituencies in the light of the Supreme Court's verdict and constitutional role of the CEC.
The sources further said that Chaudhry Nisar had certain reservations about registration of voters in his own constituency. On the other hand, the CEC told him that voters' lists have been rectified and any discrepancy if found would be rectified at anytime.
The election commission is keen to bring all the administrative machinery under its control to ensure free and fair elections.
Meanwhile it is understood that members of the ruling parties at the Centre and in Punjab are against holding of early elections. They are seeking more funds for completion of development schemes and have informed their leadership that if the schemes were not completed, people would reject them.
