Bearish sentiments prevailed on the Lahore Stock Exchange on Monday and the equities remained depressed amid decreased trading turnover due to the investors' cautious approach who remained on the sideline. The LSE-25 index lost 35.75 points to close at 4091.20 against 4126.95 of last Friday, while transaction volume was restricted to 3.309 million shares compared with previous volume of 4.213 million shares.
The market was opened on a negative sign and kept on moving down due to lacking interest on the part of investors. Engro Foods, Pakistan Reinsurance, Yousuf Weaving Mills, Pak Electron, Byco Petroleum, Dewan Farooq Motors, Fauji Fertiliser, Sui Northern and Wateen Telecom resisted pressure and were ended in green zone.
However, Nishat Chunian, Nishat Mills, Engro Corporation, Kot Addu Power, Dawood Hercules Corporation, DG Khan Cement, Fatima Fertiliser, Maple Leaf Cement, KESC, and Picic Growth Fund remained under selling pressure. The gainers and the losers were equal, as out of a total of 98 active issues, 24 companies posted gains, 24 recorded losses, while 50 companies remained unchanged at their last week closing. Engro Foods gained Rs 4.19, Pakistan Reinsurance was improved by 66-paisa, while Yousuf Weaving and Hub Power were appreciated by 40-paisa and 39-paisa, respectively.
Nishat Chunian lost 82-paisa, Engro Corporation was declined by 55-paisa while Kot Addu Power and Nishat Mills were down by 41-paisa and 34-paisa, respectively. Silk Bank with trading of 586,500 shares topped the volume leaders followed by Lotte Pakistan PTA with 565,500 shares.
