Fresh wave of violence gripped the city on Monday, as 10 persons were killed in separate incidents in the metropolis. According to police and rescue sources, unidentified armed men sprayed a volley of bullets on a car (ABX-849) at Northern Bypass in the limits of Sohrab Goth police station.
Resultantly, a 28-year-old man, Zohaib son of Nazeer Ahmad, sustained two-bullet wounds and died on spot. DSP Qamar Ahmad said the deceased, who was third-year medical student in Baqai University, was the resident of Defence. He said the victim might have been killed when he offered resistance during kidnapping bid.
Similarly, unknown armed riders opened indiscriminate gunshots on a general store and a paper shop in Nazimabad no 2 in the limits of Gulbahar police station that left three persons including two brothers and their cousin injured. Police said the victims, who were identified as Qamar Hussain, 50, son of Nazeer Hussain, his brother Hasnain, 45, and cousin Hussain alias Riaz, were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where they succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Following the incident, tension gripped many city areas where all shops and markets were closed. Later, the funeral prayers of the two brothers were offered at Rizvia while the body of Hussain was taken to Soilder Bazar for rituals.
A prayer leader, Mufti Maviah son of Abdul Mateen, was gunned down near Anda Mor in the limits of Sir Syed police station. Police said the deceased, who was said to be associated with Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat, was targeted when he was returning home after offering Zohr prayers. Police said he might have been killed over sectarian ground. Later, his funeral prayer was offered at Madni Masjid, North Karachi.
A man, Abdul Jabbar,65, was killed while a cop namely Rafiq sustained injuries in a drive-by shooting at a café located in Ayub Goth in the limits of Sohrab Goth police station. Police said the deceased, who was the father of four, was the resident of Ayub Goth and might have been killed by Land Mafia. No case was registered till filing of this report.
In another incident, one, Nadeem, 35, son of Khursheed, was shot dead near Tow Minute Chowrangi in the jurisdiction of Bilal colony police station. Police said the victim, who was employed in private construction company, hailed from interior Sindh. No case was registered till filing of this report.
Two more bodies were recovered from the bushes located in Machar colony in the limits of Docks police station. The victims were identified as Saeed Alam, 20, and Ameer Hussain, 24. Police said the deceased were criminals and might have been killed by their other accomplices.
A man, Khalid son of Parveez, who got injured in an armed ambush three days ago, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a private hospital. Police said the victim, who used to run scrap business, had serious dispute with drug peddler Sir Taj alias Sir Taja. They said the family members of the deceased registered a case against Sir Taja. Another man namely Ghulam lost his life in an armed attack in Bhans colony. The body was shifted to JPMC and later handed over to the heirs. No case was registered till filing of this report.
