The Supreme Court has fixed the hearing of petitions regarding alleged memorandum to Admiral Mike Mullen by Hussain Haqqani, former Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States of America, on January 28, 2013. According to a press release issued here on Monday, the case was heard on November 13, 2012 by a nine-member bench, led by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
The bench had passed order after adjourning the case and said that before the next hearing, the counsel for respondent would be required to submit a written request to the Secretary Interior, Government of Pakistan pointing out the apprehensions of respondent Hussain Haqqani regarding his security in Pakistan.
It further said that on receipt of the same, adequate arrangements "shall" be made by the Secretary Interior, the Government of Pakistan. Such arrangements of security "shall" be required to be made at least two weeks prior to commencement of hearing. Asma Jahangir, Advocate Supreme Court, further submitted that on account of her other professional commitments, she would not be available in December, 2012. Therefore, the bench adjourned the case till January, 2013.
"Furthermore, in pursuance of the above order, the Office moved a note on December 22,2012 for fixation of the case, after going through the note, the Chief Justice of Pakistan passed the order. "Let this matter be fixed in court on January 28, 2013. Compliance of order of November 13, 2012 may be made accordingly," the press statement concluded.
