Speaker Balochi-stan Assembly Muhammad Aslam Bhootani said on Monday that the no-confidence motion brought against him was against the law and the Constitution. Addressing a press conference here at the Balochistan Assembly, Aslam Bhootani said the reason for bringing a no-confidence motion against him was not hidden from anyone. He said he had refused from calling the session of the Balochistan Assembly on the advice of the chief minister after the October 12 decision of the Supreme Court.
He said he took this decision on the principle which annoyed his certain friends. The speaker said he will challenge the no confidence move against him in the court. Bhootani said he was not such a weak person to withdraw from his point of view to save his office. He said he believes in the rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution, adding that even thousands of such moves could not deter his resolve. He said it was the prerogative of the Assembly members to elect anyone as the speaker.
However, he said, some of his colleagues in the Assembly showed unnecessary urgency to bring no-confidence motion against him. He said he could be removed easily but legal and constitutional obligations should be fulfilled in this regard. He said several rules of the house have been violated in bringing no confidence move against him. Bhootani said he has no greed for the speakership which is evident from his recent steps. He said his stand was according to the court order of October 12, and if the court changed its order then he will also change his point of view.
