Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Agriculture, Arbab Mohammad Ayub Jan said that terrorism has crippled the economy of the province, adding the effective planning has been made through mechanised farming to usher in agricultural revolution to alleviate poverty and unemployment from the province.
Talking to a delegation of farmers from dozens of villages of districts Peshawar and Nowshera here at his residence, he said that soon a flood protection project costing Rs 950 million will be launched to protect thousands of acres of land and people from Bara and Budhni rivers.
He said that untiring efforts of the agriculture scientists and experts have made the province self-sufficient in production of quality wheat seeds, which he said besides exporting to Afghanistan, will also be supplied to Balochistan. Furthermore, he said that bulldozers and tractors have been purchased at the cost of Rs 300 million for levelling millions of barren land to make it cultivable.
The provincial minister said that the ANP government is not ruling, but waging holy war for the restoration of peace in the province. He said that in the struggle for restoration of peace, the ANP has sacrificed three legislators including its parliamentary leader in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and eight hundred political workers, while the process of further sacrifices is still continued. He urged all political parties including religious-political one and the whole nation to join hands and wage a joint struggle for the restoration of peace to observe the new calendar year as year of peace and harmony.
