The government will keep facilitating religious institutions, as they are an important part of the society, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain said on Friday. He said this while meeting with members of a delegation of Wafaqul Madaris led by Maulana Hanif Jalandhri in Islamabad.
Members of the delegation informed the Adviser that their body represented 2.5 million students who were provided free education, boarding and lodging facilities in various institutions spread across the country. The delegates criticised Ogra for enhancing the gas tariff, saying that it had been increased with any consultation.
The delegation requested that the government should provide subsidies on utilities to religious institutions. Dr Asim Hussain informed the delegation that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources had already directed SNGPL and SSGCL to work out a special category. The Advisor said that at present, the previous tariff would be applicable with effect from January 1 next year.
