The purpose of implications of SRO 1441, dated 12-12-12, restricting import of more than three years old cars is to widen the class gap and create discord in the society which can only hurt the government, said a press release issued here by All Pakistan Motor Dealers Association.
The scope of the SRO has been deliberately limited to "Cars" although the original SRO had the word "Vehicles". This means that five-year old SUV', vans, trucks and other such high priced vehicles can still be imported under this SRO for the rich and influential people. The restriction applies only to those people who can afford small cars of 660 to l000cc priced at less than 10 lacs.
These consumers will now be forced to buy only the 25 year old model 800cc car, which can only claim to be a car is that it has four wheels because it is the only available local car in this category. Is this justice? Why is the middle class public being punished? Does the government support different policies/laws for rich and poor?
Are we not creating a one brand' market and is the not the worst kind of monopoly and cartel? How much longer is the government going to be black-mailed by these pseudo OEMs. Isn't 30 years enough? In the name of justice it is appealed to repeal this SRO immediately which is aiming at polarising the society. If this is asking too much then at least make it applicable to all vehicles and all citizens as per the Constitution of Pakistan.-PR
