Due to unscheduled power outages and non-availability of gas supply, the exports of Sialkot have been decreased to Rs 30 billion, said President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Sheikh Abdul Majid on Saturday. Addressing an emergent news conference, he said that this rapid decline in exports would be serious blow to national economy and if the situation remained the same.
The ratio of unemployment was also increasing with every passing day and daily wagers were finding difficult to make both ends meet, he maintained. The SCCI president urged the government to ensure supply of electricity on the basis of equality and refrain from supplying additional electricity to any other province.
At present, the duration of electricity loadshedding is 11 hours making exporters unable to fulfil their international commitments as the production was at its lowest ebb, he added. Majid further said that the government should take immediate steps for the survival of the industrial sector as it was confronting with multifarious problems. He suggested that the government exempt the industrial towns from power and gas loadshedding to keep the economic wheel in full motion.
