Hundreds of young men gathered outside the local press club to protest against the brutal murder of a young man named Shazaib by some influential people three days ago when he tried to stop them from molesting his sister. Father of the deceased DSP Aurangzaib also attended the protest.
Demonstrators appealed to the Supreme Court to initiate suo motu action on the incident so that culprits could be brought to justice. Protestors were carrying placards, calling for 'Justice for Shahzaib Khan', 'We demand justice', 'Fight for humanity' and appeals to the Chief justice of the Supreme Court to take suo motu action on Shahzaib's murder.
They demanded of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah to take notice of this callous murder and bring perpetrators to justice.
Leaders of various political parties, including Nehal Hashmi of PML-N, Anwar Jamal and Wasim Akhtar, Wasay Jalil and Raza Haroon and members of the civil society also joined the protest to express solidarity with the bereaved family.
On this occasion, Chairman of Pakistan Cresecent Youth Organisation Nadeem Shaikh and President of Ansari Foundation Rashid Ansari also attended the protest.
Leaders of political parties agreed that Shahzaib's murder was the outcome of the feudal mindset and assured the bereaved family of all-out support in its efforts for justice.
Protesters threatened the authorities concerned that if they failed to arrest elements involved in the incident, there would be widespread protests.
Demonstrators also observed a candlelight vigil in Shahzaib's memory.
General Secretary of the Karachi chaspter of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Naseem Siddiqui condemned the incident and urged the government to quickly arrest the culprits involved in this incident.
Meanwhile, Chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain urged the federal and provincial governments to arrest Shahzaib's killers without any further delay. He said it was unfortunate that Shahzaib's killers had not yet been arrested because they belonged to influential feudal families.
He said that these corrupt and callous feudal lords killed innocent people with impunity and then claim the incidents to be the outcome of personal feuds.
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) also staged a demonstration against Shahzaib's murder.
