Vice chancellors of different public sector universities in a meeting held here on Monday deliberated upon the issues and challenges faced by the higher education sector. The 11th Vice Chancellors' Committee meeting was attended by rectors and vice-chancellors of over 70 public sector universities.
Vice-Chancellors Committee Chairperson and acting Executive Director HEC Engr Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, in the opening remarks, hoped that the New Year 2013 would prove to be more fruitful for the higher education sector. Speaking on the occasion, Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairperson Dr Javaid R Laghari said that the Supreme Court decision regarding the appointment of new executive director would be implemented within stipulated time.
He assured that HEC along with universities would continue its role for boosting up higher education sector in the country. On this occasion, the Trophy of 32nd National Games was presented to the HEC Chairperson. The commission has grabbed the second position in 32nd National Games with 29 gold, 62 silver, 74 bronze and total 165 medals and 2935 points. The meeting deliberated on financial issues, proposed establishment of provincial higher education councils, recent amendments in the university Act by Punjab government, and revitalising HEC.
