At least three children including two real brothers died of measles and four others affected of the disease were hospitalised here on Saturday. According to details, three children hailing from village 265 GB of Toba Tek Singh expired of measles due to non availability of vaccine. The deceased were identified as Muhammad Qamar, Muhammad Ali and Tayyeb.
Four children affected of the epidemic were shifted to hospital where according to medics their condition was also serious. The health teams reached the scene after getting information of the deaths and started the vaccination of the children. The local people said that basic health unit (BHU) of the village was closed for the last two months and the causalities were due to non availability of appropriate treatment.
They demanded the provincial government and health authorities for taking solid steps to stop further spread of the epidemic. It should be mentioned that deadly measles has so far claimed lives of more than four hundred children in Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. Provincial and federal governments and health authorities despite tall claims have failed to overcome the disease and it continue to spread its wings.
