Pakistan National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has discontinued Smart National Identity Cards (SNICs) project in Europe on Saturday over concerns by security agencies. According to Pakistan High Commissioner in the United Kingdom (UK) Wajid Shamsul Hasan, Nadra officials said that SNICs project for Pakistanis living in Europe after Pakistani security agencies cast their apprehensions over the project after giving its approval.
The project initiated after the security agencies gave their clearance but now different security agencies have expressed their reservations that sensitive information about the card holders could fall into wrong hands. Nadra has discontinued the project after consulting with legal advisers.
