The death toll in Hangu's Pat Bazaar suicide attack mounted to 28 with the death of another injured child at Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), Peshawar. On Friday, 27 people were killed and more than 50 others wounded when a suicide bomber exploded himself outside Jamia Masjid Faizaullah at the time when the faithfuls were coming out after offering Juma prayers.
The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed the responsibility for the attack. Eshanullah Ehsan, the TTP spokesman said that the target was the Shia mosque, and the reason for the attack was their ideological differences with the community which he said would continue to be on their hit list. Funeral prayers of the all the victims of the blast were offered amid tight security and they were laid to rest at ancestral graveyards.
Meanwhile, all the private and governmental educational institutions, markets and trade centres remained closed to mourn the large scale death of innocent people and to express solidarity with the bereaved families. Security across the district remained on red alert and additional security personnel were deployed at sensitive locations besides strict checking at all the exits and entrances of the city.
