Rally organised in Multan: 'Bahawalpur province' to be created at any cost: PML-N
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Saturday organised a big rally, which was attended by more than 5,000 activists against the proposed Bahawalpur South Punjab province.
The rally concluded after five hours march on city roads at Chowk Nawean Shehr. The rally was led by Members of National Assembly Rana Mehmoodul Hassan, Sheikh Tariq Rashid, Shaheen Shafiq, Senator Rafiq Rajwana, Punjab Minister Haji Ehsdanuddin Qureshi, MPAs Abdul Waheed Arain, Aamer Saeed Ansari, Rana Ijaz Noon, Sultana Shaheen, Ghaffar Dogar, Rai Mansab Ali Khan, Aapa Nasreen, Sarwat Khan, Qurban Fatima, Bilal Butt, Disdtrict President Rana Shahidul Hassan, city president, Sheikh Athar Mumtaz. Hundreds of motor-cycles, vans, trailers, carts and trucks were included in the rally.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday pledged that it would restore the previous status of Bahawalpur province "at any cost". Participants shouted slogans against the PPP leadership for hoodwinking the 70 million people of south Punjab. Participants were carrying placards, banners, portraits of PML-N leadership.
The speakers criticised the PPP-led coalition government on the issue of new provinces, saying that Bahawalpur province would be created at any cost. They said that Muslim league was not against the creation of new provinces but it would not let anyone to use this card of new province in General Election.
He said that Bahawalpur province would also be created separately to meet an outstanding demand of Bahawalpurites. They said the issue of new provinces was another trick by the PPP and the "Zardari gang" to postpone the forthcoming elections. They said the PPP was trying to put the issue of new provinces in doldrums by misleading the people. Commenting on the Parliamentary Commission on New Provinces in Punjab, they said the body should look into the administrative issues of the new provinces, instead of political ones.
They said the inclusion of Bhakkar and Mianwali districts in the South Punjab province was also unconstitutional. They strongly criticised the PPP government and President Asif Ali Zaradri, saying the commission's chairman, Senator Farhatullah Babar, was a staff member of the president and therefore not acceptable.
