Someone who wants to play a CD, DVD or Blu-ray but doesn't have drive on their laptop doesn't necessarily have to buy an external device. This is true at least if you have a desktop or another laptop with an optical drive because this can be shared easily using a wired or wireless network.
To do so, right-click on the symbol of the drive, select "Share with" and then "Advancing Sharing." This opens a new window where you give the drive a name. The drive then becomes accessible via the network on computers that don't have such a drive. However, this set-up only works for reading disks, not burning them.
