The Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Monday turned their protest movement into hunger strike against victimisation by the government, and vowed to continue until their demands were met. It may be noted that young doctors were due to hold protest camp outside the Services Hospital on Monday, which later turned into hunger strike.
YDA office-bearers including Dr Hamid Butt, Dr Nasir Bukhari, Dr Usman Ayub, Dr Javed Aheer, Dr Ajmal, Dr Basharat, Dr Usman Dar, Dr Rai Ahmad, Dr Hussain Chuahdry, Dr Khurram and others were present on the occasion. They urged the government to stop victimisation in the form of termination from job, suspensions, undue transfers, and harassment letters at homes of young doctors who were peacefully protesting in OPD camps.
The young doctors said they would continue their hunger strike with dedicated volunteers from all over Punjab unto death or acceptance of demands, adding that the chief minister would be responsible for any loss of life or any other harm to young doctors.
