Governor Punjab Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood inaugurated UVAS equine diagnostics and clinic established by the University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS) at the Lahore Race Club, Rakh Chandra, Kot Lakhpat. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Governor appreciated the UVAS for setting up the equine diagnostics and clinic at the Race Club to facilitate the public in disease diagnosis and treatment of equines (horses). The Governor also took a round of these facilities.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha briefed the Governor on the objectives of the equine diagnostics and clinic and the facilities and services available for the public. He said that the diagnostics facilities include blood chemistry, blood count, culture and sensitivity tests, haemoparasite detection tests, faecal examination, Rose Bengal Test for brucellosis, ultrasonography etc, while the clinic is providing the facilities of clinical examination of equines, disease treatment and surgeries. He said that the UVAS also plans to develop doping test facility for the race winner and runner-up horses.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the equine diagnostics and clinic will also be used for the hands-on training of students about equine disease diagnosis and treatment. Researchers can also benefit from these facilities as a large number of horses are available at the race club, he added. Director UVAS Diagnostic Lab Professor Dr Masood Rabbani, Professor Dr Aleem Bhatti and Jockey Club Secretary Brigadier Muhammad Akram Khan were also present on the occasion.
