MQM on Monday opposed the tabling of a resolution which the Sindh Culture Minister, Sussui Palejo had moved to pay tribute to Sindhi intellectual, the late Sirajul Haq Memon. Two lawmakers of MQM - Syed Sardar Ahmed and Faisal Sabzwari outrightly rejected the move, saying that the session was dedicated to the former slain lawmaker - Manzar Imam.
They were of the view that there should be no business except to pay tribute to the former legislator. The MQM opposition largely left the mover of the resolution worried. The Sindh Culture Minister found herself alone on the floor with no support from across the benches. She insisted that the resolution was just to pay homage to the late intellectual who contributed greatly in the field of Sindhi literature and linguistics.
He requested the MQM not to make an issue of the resolution which was just a tribute to a man whose services were invaluable. She wondered what had made the MQM oppose the tribute to an intellectual personality of the country.
Faisal Sabzwari said that the MQM had opted to not present the resolution to pay tribute to its late lawmaker and the move had been reserved until the next assembly session. Sussui said in response to the MQM's incessant opposition, "I am sad. It is very sad. Today is his [Sirajul Haq Memon's] soyem." Deputy speaker, Shehla Raza finally gave a ruling to end the deadlock-like situation in the house "it is a mourning session" and no such businesses could be held except to pay tribute to the late lawmaker. She adjourned the house till February 6, Wednesday morning at 10 am.
