The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice on Tuesday of a picture circulating on social media, showing a funeral procession passing through sewage water and said that all those responsible for this condition would be answerable to court.

According to local media reports, inquiring the whereabouts of the picture, the CJP directed attorney general and advocate general's attention towards the photo. The picture that has been circulating on social media shows a funeral procession treading through a street overflowing with sewage water.

He also asked the media representatives to look at the photo and identify the area it originated from. Justice Nisar observed that dirtiness and pollution is a threat to human life.

Earlier on Saturday, the CJP had expressed anger over the polluted condition of Karachi. CJP observed that collection of garbage and its disposal was the duty of the Karachi mayor.

Mayor Wasim Akhtar replied that the provincial government had assumed all the powers. The CJP has issued orders to clean Karachi within a week.
