Wapda workers hold demonstration, seek protection

Thousands of Water and Power Development Authority's (WAPDA) workers protested in front of Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) head office here on Wednesday to press for their demands including protection for field staff. They demanded of the government and the Lesco management to arrest and bring to book the armed persons who attacked Lesco staff at Khudian West Sub Division and Kareem Park Sub division Lahore the other day.
They stressed that the Wapda/Lesco should upgrade the pay scales of the workers at two stages after five years service and distribution of 12 -1/2 percent shares to the workers. The workers condemned the recruitments on the behest of MNAs and MPAs and demanded recruitment of the children of deceased and retired personnel against the prescribed quota agreed to by the government.
