'Comprehensive breed improvement policy needed'

The Punjab Livestock Advisory Forum at a meeting at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences called for preparing a comprehensive breed improvement policy in the province. The meeting was co-chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department (L&DDD) Punjab Irfan Elahi.
The meeting was also briefed by the L&DDD officials on the performance and growth of the livestock and dairy sectors in recent years. The meeting also was briefed on the future strategy comprising conservation of breeds through nucleus herd in public and private sector, increased role of breeders associations in breed improvement programmes, etc.
