The Sindh Assembly on Wednesday paid tribute to Dr Muhammad Ali Shah, the provincial minister for sports who passed away recently, for his meritorious services. Dr Shah died on last Monday in the US. During the session called to mourn his death, lawmakers agreed that he was a "frank and cheerful person". One of his colleagues, Sindh Minister for Archives Muhammad Rafiq Engineer termed him a "brave man.
The assembly session resumed its business under Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza, who later adjourned the house till Thursday morning. Sindh Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ayaz Soomro pleaded to the chair to dedicate the session for paying tribute to late Dr Shah. The chair approved the request and held prayers and paid homage to Dr Muhammad Ali Shah for his invaluable services in the fields of medicine, besides making efforts for boosting sports in the province.
A Muttahida Qaumi Movement legislator, Aleemur Rehman, pointed out that Dr Shah had conducted a record 4,300 surgeries in his lifetime. Sindh Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed said that the former legislator was obsessed with sports despite being a renowned surgeon. MQM's veteran lawmaker Syed Sardar Ahmed also paid rich tribute. A number of lawmakers including NPP's Arif Mustafa Jatoi, ANP's Amir Nawab, MQM's Abdul Haseeb Khan and Faisal Sabzwari, PPP's Agha Siraj Durrani, Ayaz Soomro, Sharjeel Memon, and others also lauded Dr Shah's services.
