Young Doctors Association (YDA) Punjab on Thursday continued their hunger strike on the fourth consecutive day, amid initiation of talks with a representative delegation of senior doctors formed on the backing of the provincial government to persuade the protesting doctors to end their hunger strike.
The delegation of senior doctors visited the hunger strike camp and asked the representatives of YDA to end their strike. However, talks were going on till the filing of this report. The young doctors had set up a hunger strike camp in front of the Services Hospital where over 100 young doctors were observing the hunger strike.
The protesting doctors are demanding service structure, release of their colleagues arrested in the Gujranwala incident and end to the "victimisation" of young doctors through termination of contracts, suspensions and transfers. YDA representatives have expressed their resolve to continue the hunger strike until all of their demands were fulfilled. During the camp, the protesting doctors chanted slogans against the government for not fulfilling their demands.
