Pakistan Navy has established a Joint Maritime Information and Co-ordination Centre (JMICC). A formal inauguration of the JMICC was performed here on Thursday. Defence Minister, Syed Naveed Qamar, performed the inauguration of this Centre. The JMICC has been established by the Pakistan Navy for the "consolidation of maritime strategy to counter all threats and challenges."
This is also aimed at harmonising the efforts of all maritime stakeholders through timely gathering and sharing of information to effectively safeguard maritime interests of Pakistan. The Centre will be manned round the clock and representatives from all maritime stakeholders will form part of the Centre.
While addressing the audience at the inaugural ceremony here on Thursday, the Defence Minister appreciated Pakistan Navy's efforts for establishing the Interagency Co-ordination Body in the shape of JMICC and urged the concerned Ministries, Agencies and Departments to render whole hearted assistance to this nascent organisation in order to improve Pakistan's maritime security.
He reiterated that our aim should be to further consolidate our maritime strategy to counter all threats and challenges in order to reap the unlimited benefits offered by the sea. Congratulating all those who contributed towards the establishment of this institution, the chief guest said that he has no doubt that the JMICC will, over the years, become the hub of all information related to maritime security at national and regional levels to address the issues related to the maritime domain. In his welcome address, the Commander Coast, Rear Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, mentioned that the biggest challenge to maritime security is inter agency co-ordination between a host of organisations and departments associated with the maritime sector working under different ministries.
To overcome this weakness, Pakistan Navy took a lead role for creating the JMICC so as to provide horizontal linkages between various agencies involved in the maritime sector. The ceremony was attended by high level military and civil officials including the heads of various Maritime Organisations.
