Lawyers on Saturday staged a sit-in to protest against the killing of a senior lawyer, M M Tariq, who was shot dead the other day in the city. Lawyers of the Sindh High Court, City Court and Malir Court also boycotted court proceedings. Unknown persons had attacked the senior lawyer in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Lawyers wearing black arm bands attended the general body session of their representative organisation.
Condemning the government inaction, they said the killers were still at large, and nobody was there to protect the lives of the citizens. Lashing out against the government for not taking the law and order issue seriously, lawyers warned the government that they would be forced to take a severe line of action if it did not curb the growing wave of lawlessness in the city. They demanded of the government to pay compensation to the family of the deceased lawyer.
