A Kuwaiti court on Sunday released three former opposition lawmakers convicted of insulting the Gulf country's ruler, Kuwaiti media reported. A court last week sentenced Falah al-Sawagh, Khaled al-Tahus and Badr al-Dahum to three years in prison for defaming Emir Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah at anti-government rallies last year.
The Appeals Court Sunday ordered the three be released on bail of 17,750 dollars each. The court set March 10 for hearing their appeals on sentencing them. Kuwaiti courts have in recent months sentenced several activists to various jail terms for insulting the emir on Twitter.
The opposition - comprising Islamists, nationalists and liberals - boycotted parliamentary elections held on December 1.
