The Government College University (GCU) Lahore has launched three new doctorate of philosophy (PhD) programmes in the discipline of Islamic Studies, Computer Sciences and Applied Physics. Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman said the university's statutory bodies had approved the new PhD programmes after the fulfilment of criteria which was laid down by the Higher Education Commission.
Professor Rahman said the GCU PhD programmes had increased to 19, adding that GCU had also initiated 20 postgraduate programmes last year. He pledged to initiate more postgraduate programmes in the coming year. The admissions to the new PhD programmes are open till February 28, and no form would be accepted after the due date. While GCU Lahore Arabic Department and Majlis-e-Aloom Islamia on Monday organised a Naatia Mushaira at the Fazl-e-Hussain Reading Room.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman was the chief guest at the Mushaira which was attended by GCU Chairman Arabic Department Dr Sultan Shah and large number of students and faculty members. As many as 12 poets from various parts of the country presented their Kalam in the honour of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) at the Mushaira chaired by eminent teacher Professor Dr Khurshid-ul-Hassan Rizvi.
