The academic calendar of Government College University (GCU) Lahore ensures widespread participation of its students in creative and extra-curricular activities which are essential for their character-building, said Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur Rahman while addressing the prize distribution of All Pakistan Dry Flower and Poster Competition organised by GCU Horticulture Society on the theme of "Education, Development and Employment" at the university's Abdus Salam Hall.
GCU Director Research Professor Dr Muhammad Zakria Butt and Horticulture Society Advisor Professor Dr Zaheerudddin was also present. As many as 26 teams from 12 educational intuitions including King Edward Medical University, Lahore College for Women University, Apwa College and Kinnaird College, Lahore participated in the dry flower and poster competitions. Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor said that education, which failed to build the character of youth and groom them into civilised segment of society was useless. He said that the GCU academic calendar was designed with the single purpose of balancing out academic pursuits, sports and co-curricular activities without having compromised anyone of them.
