Nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan said, here on Wednesday that he had decided to join hands with the Jamaat-i-Islami for building the country a truly Islamic, welfare state and to free it from the cruel clutches of corrupt people. He was addressing a grand reception hosted in his honour by Ameer, Jamaat-i-Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawwar Hasan, at Mansoora.
Dr A Q Khan who heads the Tehrik-e-Tahafuz-e-Pakistan (TTP), was accorded a rousing welcome on his arrival. Rose petals were showered at him and he was given a red-carpet reception. Students of the Mansoora Model School and Syed Maudoodi Institute had lined up to greet the national hero.
The JI Ameer and Dr A Q Khan also had a brief one-on-one meeting and discussed the present situation in the country. He said that if the nation wanted to get rid of poverty, loot and plunder, unemployment and lawlessness, it should vote for patriotic, honest and competent people in the next elections. He said that in order to safeguard the country's integrity and solidarity, it was necessary to save it from external threats as well as corruption and lawlessness at home.
Dr A.Q. Khan said that when India detonated the nuclear bomb about thirty years back, he returned home from Europe and made up his mind not to have respite unless he made the nuclear bomb for his country. He was happy that he had not disappointed the nation, he added.
He said that hundreds of JI men had been in the assemblies and also in the government but there were no charges of corruption, misuse of power against any of them. Therefore, he said, he had decided to join hands with the JI in order to steer the country out of the present crisis. Munawwar Hasan, in his presidential address, said that by making the country's defence impregnable, Dr A Q, Khan had done invaluable service not only to Pakistan but also to the Muslim world. He said that Dr Khan wanted to build Pakistan as an ideological and developed country and also the fortress of Islam.
The JI Ameer said that the incompetent and corrupt rulers had done irreparable loss to the country's solidarity and integrity and their joining the US war on terror had given birth to numerous crises. He said that Bilawal Houses were being built at the cost of billions in different cities while the masses remained without food, clothing and shelter. He said if Pakistan's image was to be raised in the comity of the nation, it must be made corruption-free through good governance.
He said the country and the nation needed a patriotic leader imbued with the spirit of sacrifice, like Dr A.Q. Khan. Munawwar Hasan said that the aims and the objectives of the JI and Dr A.Q. Khan's Tehrik-e-Tahafuz-e-Pakistan, were the same as both wanted Pakistan to emerge as a prospering Islamic, welfare state. JI Naib Ameers, Chaudhry Muhammad Aslam Saleemi, Dr Muhammad Kamal, JI, Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch, chief of the Jamait-e-Ittehad-e-Ulema, Maulana Abdul Malik, were also present.
