Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is making bylaws of fire brigade which will soon be enforced in the city. This was said by KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed in a meeting of municipal services department of KMC, here on Wednesday. In the meeting the performance of fire brigade and its requirements were reviewed.
According to him, citizens and organisations should have knowledge about fire extinguishing so that they could save their lives and properties in any emergency situation. KMC has decided to increase the quantity of fire stations in the city and training courses for fire fighters would be conducted to meet modern lines and fire fighters would be sent to foreign countries for further training to learn the modern techniques of fire fighting. The administrator said that in case of fire emergency citizens and departments should have at least basic knowledge about fire extinguishing.
He said high rise buildings were being built in Karachi. However, the arrangements for fire extinguish and emergency exits were not available. He said that a training programme was being arranged in KMC schools through which children would be taught to have basic knowledge in case of fire emergency at home or school.
He said that a gradual programme for training children would be started. Administrator KMC was informed that demonstration of fire extinguishing under Municipal Services Department would be done in Civic Centre and surroundings which would be aimed at providing employees with basic knowledge for saving their lives in case of any emergency. He said that officers and employees would be instructed to ensure their availability in demonstration and send their feedback along with recommendations and opinion to help us improve the performance of fire fighting.
It was informed that measures to provide fire brigade with modern equipment were being taken whereas work on the improvement of fire tenders was also underway and new machinery and vehicles will be procured for continuous supply of water so that in case of emergency water supply would continue.
