The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is seriously considering the provision of free residential quarters to labourer community in the province. This was stated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Labour, Sher Azam Wazir while talking to the media here on Thursday. He said that in this connection the provincial government would construct 10,000 residential units.
Under the project, he said the Workers Welfare Board, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will soon start work on the construction of 3400 flats for provision of quality residential facilities to workers. Similarly, he said that another project of the construction of 2356 flats is in final stages of completion.
He said that work on several labourers'-friendly mega projects is in progress while construction work on a mega-welfare project for the workers of Lucky Cement Factory will start this year. The provincial minister said that the project will cost Rs 10 billion. He said that the utility of the scheme has been further enhanced and now besides constructing a 1000-residential quarters labour colony, education, health and modern sports facilities will also be constructed in it.
Similarly, he said community centres would also be constructed in the concerned labour colony. The project, he said will guarantee the provision of basic amenities of life to the labourers of that backward area of the province. He said that the federal government has increased the formal funding of the project from Rs 2 billion to Rs 10 billion.
He said that the completion of several other projects initiated at the cost of Rs 9 billion in Peshawar will bring maximum enhancement in the beauty of the city while another project of the construction of a plaza started by the Workers Welfare Board at the cost of Rs 350 million will prove a state of the art initiative of the department.
The project, he said besides providing modern accommodation to government organisations will also increase the revenue of the board. He said that 60% work on the scheme had already been completed. He said that work on the remaining phases of the project will be completed before the deadline.
The provincial minister said that the coalition government of PPP despite global financial crisis and domestic problems believes in extending maximum relief and mitigation of the grievances of the people. He said that the government has framed people-friendly policies to combat poverty and price-hike in the country.
