The Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan, has called upon the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) to undertake concrete planning to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity during the summer. "The preparations in this regard and co-ordinated measures should commence from today", he stressed. The Governor was talking to Chairman of KESC, Tabish Gohar, and Chief Executive Officer, Nayyer Hussain, who called on him at the Governor House here on Thursday.
He said that there is a shortage of gas and while adopting the policy of conservation more and more relief would have to be provided to the people. Dr Ishrat said that it is a matter of satisfaction that loadshedding has been done away with in 50 percent areas of the metropolis. However, it is necessary to eliminate loadshedding in the remaining areas of the city as well, he stressed.
The Governor pointed out that Karachi is the industrial hub and that the industrial areas depend on electricity for their production activities. He stressed that KESC should enhance its capacity and utilise every possible resources to ensure supply of electricity. Dr Ishrat suggested that alternate resources should also be utilised for generating more electricity. He said that the very purpose of privatisation of KESC was aimed at provision of required facility to the people. The Governor said that it is hoped that the KESC would further improve its performance.
