The opposition party-Pakistan Muslim League-Functional on Thursday voiced concerns over blocking of funds by the government to Sindh Education Foundation, fearing closure of nearly 1500 schools. On a point of order during the Sindh Assembly session, the opposition lawmaker, Syeda Marvi Rashid raised concerns over halt of funds to the foundation.
She said due to non-availability of funds halt it might bring some 1500 schools to a closure and affect 1,000 teachers and 2,50, 000 students. Speaker Nisar Khuhro, however, made it clear to the house that the People's Party's government had set up the foundation in 1993 and the present government would never let its closure.
He asked Sindh Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ayaz Soomro to look into the matter seriously and help release funds to the foundation to continue its operations uninterrupted. MQM's Syed Sardar Ahmed also showed concerns over the non-release of funds to the foundation.
