The Karachi Port handled 124,886 tonnes of cargo comprising 71,269 tonnes of import cargo and 53,617 tonnes of export cargo including 3,860 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 71,269 tonnes comprised 15,243 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,081 tonnes of general cargo; 19,888 tonnes of bulk cargo: 15,700 tonnes of coal; 1,821 tonnes of palm kernel expeller; 2,367 tonnes of soda ash and 30,457 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 53,617 tonnes comprised 30,226 tonnes of containerised cargo; 245 tonnes of general cargo; 10,151 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,437 tonnes of cement; 3,418 tonnes of loose bulk cement; 4,706 tonnes of rice; 590 tonnes of sugar and 12,995 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
As many as 3,860 containers comprising 1,575 containers import and 2,285 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The brakeup of imported containers shows 307 of 20's and 354 of 40's loaded while 360 of 20's and 100 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 861 of 20's and 430 of 40's loaded containers while 38 of 20's and 263 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There are eight ships namely APL Brisbane, Oriental Fressia, EMA Querida, UBC Chille, Thor Harmony, New Horizon, Sapphire-T and Hellespont Pride with one container ship, two chemical carriers, one cement carrier, one steel ship, two oil tankers and one naphtha tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are six vessels viz APL Seattle, Vietnam Express, Maersk Kaya, Sapphire-T, New Activity and Red Tower with two container ships three oil tankers and one bulk cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.
There are three ships namely Vietnam Express, Great Hope and Safina-2 with one containers ship, one seeds carrier and one sugar carrier respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while four ships namely New Activity, Al-Soor-II, Ikan Serong and Rainbow with two oil tankers, one coal carrier and one soda ash carrier are expected to sail on Saturday.
One crude oil tanker namely MT Quetta due to arrive on Friday, while five vessels viz CSAV Lanalhue, OOCL Texas, MOL Solution, JL Rotterdom and Trident Legacy with three container ships, one oil tanker and one coal carrier respectively are due to arrive on Saturday. There are four ships namely MOL Direction, Lantau Arrow, Hyundai Colombo and Chabuk with three container ships and one project cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Sunday.
The total export cargo of 37,457 tonnes includes 7,988 tonnes of cement and 29,469 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,723 containers comprising 1,172 containers import and 1,551 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. There are two ships namely CV APL Atlanta and MT Hansa Liberty with containers and edible oil sailed out to sea on Friday morning.
A total number of six vessels viz CV APL Atlanta, MT Hansa Liberty, MV Aurara SB, MT Ardmore Calypso, MT Atlantic Glory and MT Genie are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, palm oil, chemicals and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours. An oil tanker namely Chemroad Fuji with palm oil is currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. An oil tanker namely Chemroad Fuji with palm oil is expected to take berth at Liquid Cargo Terminal on Friday.
There are two ships namely CV MSC Siera-II and MT Lahore with containers and furnace oil are due to arrive on Saturday, while two more ships namely CV Maersk Wyaming and MV Blue Balance with containers and canola seeds are due to arrive on Sunday. There are four vessels viz CV Nedlloyd Barentsz, CV Al-Abdali, CV CMA CGM Rossini and CV Sealand Michigan with containers are also due to arrive as per arrival schedule.
