ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Wednesday summoned the Sindh Health Secretary to appear before it at the Karachi Registry in a suo moto case regarding death of five minor children at a Mithi hospital.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard the case.

The chief justice observed that the head of Mithi hospital was also responsible for children’s death in Thar.

The additional advocate general told the court that three children died due to the expired vaccine given to them. “The staff of the hospital was found negligent and were suspended,” he said.

Upon this, the chief justice asked about the effect of the suspension. "People go to the public hospital for getting treatment but instead receive dead bodies of their children," he remarked.

He observed that no top official, including the head of the hospital, was nominated in the case.

Later, the case was adjourned till date in office.
