'Dual Training' system is an internationally recognised concept for vocational training and the basis for skill development in Germany, Germany's Consul General Dr Tilo Klinner said on Tuesday. The German diplomat said that this scheme would be modified and developed into an appropriate model of co-operative training in Pakistan.
He was speaking during the first project committee meeting of GPATI held here at a local hotel. The meeting was also attended by Principal Education Adviser of GIZ Dr Julie Reviere and representatives of various companies. Presenting the outline of GPATI activities for 2013, he said that participating firms, training institutes and GIZ had signed a Letter of Intent (LoI).
According to him, the training program would be implemented in collaboration with renowned firms such as Basf, Dewan Motors/BMW, DHL, Linde, Lufthansa Cargo, Merck, Metro, Schenker, Shanawaz/Daimler and Siemens and Vocational Training Institutes (VTIs) such as Amantech and IACT, adding that this pilot project would be implemented in Karachi.
VTIs, he said, would develop programs in accordance with the need of employees and employers, ensuring technical training under normal working conditions. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, a German entity, supported the German government in achieving its objectives in the field of international co-operation for sustainable development.
He said that the German Ministry of Economic Development and Technical Co-operation was funding an ambitious WET Reform Support Programme in Pakistan, in collaboration with the European Union and the Netherlands, adding that GIZ had been commissioned to assist the government of Pakistan in its implementation. Programme partners are the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), Technical and Vocational Training Authorities (TEVTAs) in all provinces and regions, private sector organisations and other stakeholders. In response to a question, the German Consul-General said that the training project would be initiated latest by May 1 this year.
