Pakistan should not come under US pressure for abandoning the Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline Project as it is a sovereign country and has a sovereign right to sign bilateral agreement with another country, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) said here on Tuesday.
It may be recalled that the US Ambassador to Pakistan, Richard Olson has said that the United States continues to have reservations over the Pak-Iran gas pipeline but is willing to support any other measure to tackle the energy crisis in Pakistan. Talking to media at the Ulema Conference Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the government was not implementing the Parliament's guidelines for the Foreign policy of the country, therefore it has come under pressure of the United States.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman who heads the fundamentalist JUI (F) said, "we are political people as our party is a moderate political part y. Do our critics want us to leave the political field and follow the armed people? We will continue to give our point of view to the government and armed forces for the good of people and the country. He said that JUI is arranging a FATA Jirga to be participated by all major political parties for talks with the Taliban. JUI chief announced to hold a big rally at the Minar-e-Pakistan on March 31, which will be attended by the party workers from all parts of the country, he added.
