Speaker Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal on Tuesday prorogued Punjab Assembly session sine die, when quorum was pointed out while outside the house Pakistan People's Party (PPP) legislators led by opposition leader Raja Riaz distributed sweets and danced to the tune of music to celebrate the Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline project and handing over of Gwadar Port to China by the government.
Raja Riaz while commenting on the occasion said that these were milestones in the progress of the country. He said signing of the agreements reduce the difficulties of the nation and take it forward on the road to progress. The legislators said that signing of the agreements under severe international pressure was not a small feat of the PPP-led government.
The 45th session of Punjab Assembly started three hours late which was chaired by Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal. At the outset, PML-N members started harshly criticising PPP for disturbing House proceeding through its 'celebration' PPP MPA Hassan Murtaza's remark against women legislators of PML-N provoked female legislators of the ruling party, who sharply reacted to the remarks.
PPP MPA Shaukat Basra on a point of order raised the issues of his maltreatment by police during doctor's agitation. PML-N MPA Tahir Khalil Sindhu severely criticised federal minister for interior in the House. When a member pointed quorum, the chair prorogued the House sine die.
