At least five persons including a woman and a worker of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) were killed in separate incidents of violence in the metropolis here on Tuesday. According to police and rescue sources, a 30-year-old man came under armed attack in Lines area. Resultantly, the victim, who was identified as Imran, 30, son of Sultan, died on the spot.
The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs. Police said the deceased was the worker of ASWJ. Meanwhile, ASWJ confirmed his affiliation with the party and demanded the authorities to bring the killers of Imran and other workers to justice. No case was registered till filing of this report.
Following the killing, tension prevailed in the area. Residents of the area staged a protest demonstration in front of Supreme Court Karachi Registry to express resentment over the killing, creating severe gridlock on the adjoining arteries. Another man was gunned down in Moach Goth area. Police said the identity of the victim could not be ascertained while he appeared to be in his mid-twenties. Further investigation is underway.
Similarly, unknown armed men killed a man, identified as Talib, 30, son of Ikram in Sector 4-B, Surjani Town. Police said the motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained. No case was registered till filing of this report. One, Hussain, 25, was killed while Sageer sustained serious bullet wounds in an armed ambush in Pathan colony located in Metroville Site. Police said the victims were assaulted when they were moving to somewhere and added that the affiliations of the victims could not be ascertained.
A 30-year-old woman was shot dead near New Grammar School in Garden East area. Police said the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained while she appeared to be thirty years old. The body was shifted to Edhi morgue for identification after legal formalities at Civil Hospital Karachi. No case was registered till filing of this report.
