The number of disabled people soared affected by different terrorism related incidents, and natural disasters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as figure was jumped at 100,000 including women, children and aged during last five years.
The figure was quite alarming because of surging in disabled people in past five years. Around 31.7 percent disabled people were physically handicapped in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development, Sitara Ayaz while giving details of her department performance during last five years here on Wednesday.
Flanked by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Provincial Minister for Zakat and Ushr, Haji Mohammad Zarshed Khan, secretaries from relevant departments, and other senior officials, Ayaz informed that the department had provided more than 6,749 people, including women, children and aged artificially limbs at free of cost in past five years.
She said that the mentally retarded people had provided education, and rehabilitation services through the existing more than seven Mentally Retarded and Physically Handicapped Children Centres in the K-P province. Around 10 schools for deaf and dumb children, including nine for male and one school for female, had established for provision of formal education, vocational training, free-medical treatments and other facilities.
Regarding the prevention of Drug-addiction in KP, she informed around 0.4 million people were reported drug addicts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, out of total 0.6 million in the country. For the purpose, she added that the government had established more than five treatment and rehabilitation centres in Dir Lower, D.I.Khan, Kohat, Peshawar and Swat.
Of the total registered cases of 8,219 with the Child Protection and Welfare Commission, around 6,168 relating to children resolved, she claimed. The commission, he added, having branches at eight districts, including Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Buner, Swat, Kohat, Charssada, and Abbottabad.
While giving top priority to social welfare and women development, she said the budgetary allocation was swelled in Annaul Development Program at Rs 1359.172 million from Rs 99.551 million during last five years. The government, had provided shelter facility to more than 50 women at its working women hostel, established at district Mardan and Peshawar.
