The journalist fraternity has strongly condemned the killing of a correspondent of a private news channel in North Waziristan Agency (NWA). In a joint press statement issued here on Wednesday, the Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) and Peshawar Press Club (PPC) have deplored the killing of Malik Mumtaz Khan, working as correspondent with a private news channel, who was killed by unknown people in Miranshah, North Waziristan.
The President KhUJ, Arshad Aziz Malik, General Secretary Ali Hazrat Bacha, President PPC Nasir Hussain and General Secretary Yousaf Ali demanded of the government to order judicial inquiry into the incident and ensure the safety of journalists.
They said that Malik Mumtaz is the 14th journalist being killed in the tribal areas during the last ten years, while a similar number of journalists have also been killed in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They stressed that the media owners and government should announce a package for martyred journalists so that their family could be provided support.
