Chief Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has said the all parties conference (APC) being held today (Thursday), will work our roadmap for restoration of peace in the country. Talking to media persons here on Wednesday, the JUI-F chief said that restoration of peace was indispensable for the future generation as well as for the economic prosperity of the country.
He said that political leadership of around 30 political parties had confirmed their participation in the APC, being hosted by his party, which would discuss ways for restoration of peace, besides devising strategy for talks with the militants. He said that elders of various tribes from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) would exchange their views with the political leadership and also give their suggestions for the restoration of peace in the country.
The JUI-F chief said that the conference would be helpful to pave the way for restoration of peace and ending the decade-long violence. He said that his party wanted the tribal elders themselves to engage in talks with the Taliban because the tribesmen know their traditions better.
He said that as Pak army was fighting the war of terror it be taken on board about the steps for restoration of peace. He called for forgetting the bitterness of the past and looking forward towards restoring the peace. To a question, Maulana said that Taliban had forwarded three names - PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, JI Chief Munawar Hassan and him as guarantors, but, he added that no formal request had been received so far.
To a question about caretaker prime minister, Maulana said that his party would accept whatsoever decision was taken by the government and the leader of the opposition about the caretaker premier. Sources in the JUI-F said that the conference would endorse the decisions of the "grand Jirga" held recently in Peshawar and "Teega" (truce for cease-fire) would be declared before holding talks with the Taliban.
They said that the truce would be negotiated by the tribal elders under the local traditions and the government as well as the political leadership will extend their support. According to the sources the APC will be attended by representatives of PPP, PML-N, MQM, ANP, JI and other political parties. Meanwhile‚ on the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari‚ Federal Law Minister Farooq H. Naek held a meeting with JUI-F chief. During which, the sources said that discussions were held about the future of governor's rule and overall situation of Balochistan.
