State Minister for Interior Imtiaz Safdar Waraich on Thursday said that National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) was producing 40,000 Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) daily and delivery of the cards was ensured within the due date. He said this while responding a Calling Attention Notice moved by MNAs Sajid Ahmed, Shaikh Salahuddin, Abdul Waseem and Dr Muhmmad Ayub Sheikh in the National Assembly.
To a question, the Minister said that he did not rule out involvement of agents at various registration centers and assured the members to visit the centers and take action against those involved in illegal activities. He said that Nadra was created to facilitate every Pakistani and was producing documents which were acknowledged within the country and abroad. "Its performance is appreciable as it produces 40,000 cards daily and has the capacity to produce up to 70,000 cards," he said.
He stated that in all cases the cards were delivered before the due date and delay occurs when there were doubtful entries or any person tries to get second card in addition to the one he or she already possesses. He said that there was a possibility that agents may be performing in certain areas, but the practice would be checked. To another question, he said, registration centers are opened on the basis of population and if any specific center is needed in certain area, the proposal can be considered positively. He also informed that at present 54 centers were working in Hyderabad, 66 in Sukkur and 57 in Karachi but all under process CNICs will be delivered within due date.
