The European Union this week granted export licences for 387,000 tonnes of soft wheat, taking the total since the beginning of the 2012/13 (July-June) season to 13.1 million tonnes, official data showed on Thursday. The total so far this season compared with 9.1 million tonnes of export licences cleared by the same stage in 2011/12.
The EU also granted this week licences to export 151,000 tonnes of barley, bringing the total this season to 3.7 million tonnes compared to 2.4 million tonnes at the same stage last season, the data showed. The EU also granted this week licences to import 221,000 tonnes of maize, bringing the total this season to 7.85 million tonnes, up from 3.3 million at the same point last year.
