KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) issued its statement on the countrywide breakdown of the NTDC transmission line, which created an adverse domino effect, leading to the tripping of the generation plants and EHT transmission circuits. According to KESC, late Sunday night, its transmission link to the NTDC network suddenly collapsed due to tripping of the NTDC system.
Frequency of the system, which was already running at very low level during the day suddenly reduced further, thus operating power plants in KESC's system tripped, resulting in the power failure of KESC transmission network. KESC's management, engineering and operational teams immediately responded to this dire situation in order to stabilise and protect its system from any damage due to this sudden tripping . Relying entirely on its own network, KESC started the normalisation of its downstream feeders within a few hours of the outage.
KESC's network was initially synchronised with NTDC on Monday morning with only 100MW supply, during this interim period, KESC operated in Island mode relying on its own resources to gradually normalise supply to its network. By Monday noon, KESC had restored the power supply to all its residential and commercial feeders in its network and by afternoon the entire system including industrial zones were normalised, thereby stabilising the power supply in the city. KESC also expressed its gratitude for its customers who stood by the utility with patience and their support during this unexpected event.-PR
