The Higher Education Commission HEC, the Vice Chancellors from 22 public sector Universities across Pakistan would sign a MoU with Promotion of Education in Pakistan (PEP) a US based, non-profit organisation for the establishment of Student Advancement Endowment Fund (SAFE) and Student Endowment Fund (SEF).
The agreement would be signed on Monday (today) at HEC Islamabad. Dr Javaid R. Laghari Chairman HEC would be guest of honour of the ceremony and deliver a keynote address on the occasion. Dr. Khalid Iqbal President PEP Foundation and vice chancellors from 22 public sector universities would attend the ceremony.
Through this MoU PEP Foundation will make an initial donation of Rs 1 million to the respective university for establishment of Student Advancement Endowment Fund SAFE. The SAFE account will be utilised only for the sole purpose of awarding scholarships to needy students, and for capacity building projects/programmes for the direct benefit of students. The scholarship programmes supported by the Fund will ensure that talented students are not deprived of their education because of their financial status and will have a chance to excel in their studies while attending the University.
Dr. Khalid Iqbal, President, Promotion of Education in Pakistan (PEP), Dr. Adil Najam Vice Chancellor LUMS Lahore, Dr. Ishrat Hussain Director IBA Karachi, and Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Executive Director HEC would also speak on various aspects of fund raising in higher education sector of Pakistan.
